A Message from John

Growing up in a family of seven kids, I learned at an early age about the importance of standing up to be heard and in fighting for what you believe.

I worry greatly about the America we are passing on to our children. Overwhelming debt, unsustainable spending, a weak national security, and a government bureaucracy that believes the best fix to any problem is an expanded federal one.

As Central New York’s representative in Congress, I’ve been fighting through partisan gridlock to change that. I’m focused on growing the economy to create jobs and keeping Americans safe in a dangerous world.

I’ll continue to be a strong voice for our community in Washington. Please support me as your Congressman for New York’s 24th Congressional District.

Experienced and Tested

Prior to serving Central New York in Congress, John Katko spent nearly twenty years as a federal prosecutor. He worked to keep our community safe as a prosecutor, and is working to keep our country safe in Congress.

  • Bringing People Together.

In his role as a leader of the Syracuse Gang Violence Task Force, John brought prosecutors, police, clergy, community leaders, and neighbors from differing backgrounds together to successfully reduce violence crime and improve the quality of life in targeted neighborhoods within our community.

  • Fighting for All.

John spent sixteen years traveling across Upstate New York in his role as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, prosecuting corrupt politicians, business frauds, drug traffickers, and gang members and making our community safer for every Central New York family regardless of race, creed, culture, or address. In Congress, he's continuing that fight. He's working to keep our community safe, to grow our local economy, and to combat the devastating heroin and synthetic drug epidemic.

  • Focused on Results.

John’s professional career rested on his fair and decisive conviction of those who break the law, cheat the system, and harm our children. He's taken that results-focused success to Congress to work for us in Washington, passing legislation to prioritize national security, ending the common core mandate, and delivering a bipartisan, long-term highway bill.

  • Bipartisan Recognition.

John has served under three different U.S. Presidents and received the highest professional honors from multiple Attorneys General – from both parties – and the Director of the FBI.

  • WHEN WILL DANA BALTER TELL CNY THE TRUTH?

    October 15th, 2018

SYRACUSE, NEW YORK – Following a community forum in Bayberry yesterday evening in which Dana Balter once again changed her story and timeline, Congressman John Katko today released the following statement:

“Dana Balter likes to tell voters she’s lived in Central New York for 15 years.  That’s simply not true. As it stands today, voters have absolutely no idea how long Dana Balter has lived in Central New York.”

“We know Dana Balter suffered a concussion in 2004, and moved away.  A serious medical injury is more than a legitimate reason to take time off and seek care, but Dana Balter has repeatedly been dishonest about how long she’s lived here, and what she was doing while out of town. Here is what we know:

    • She just released an ad claiming she moved to Central New York in 2003. Thats true, however she neglects to mention she left shortly after.
    • In interviews with the Syracuse Post Standard and Auburn Citizen, she told voters she suffered an injury in 2004, that forced her to leave the state to receive care.
    • Last night, she told us this was for a period of 5 years, which means she would have returned around 2009. The problem with that, is that she told the Syracuse Post Standard she lived in Naples FL from 2010-2012.
    • She also told the Syracuse Post Standard she lived in Naples, FL to care for her nephew that was attending an elite golf boarding school. She also started a business in both Pennsylvania and in Florida. Last night, she told voters she moved to Pennsylvania and Florida because she had a debilitating medical condition that required care from family.

“When I first ran for public office, every minute of my background was examined, and rightfully so. Dana Balter has based her campaign on transparency and accountability, but has been incredibly misleading about  her district ties and background. Voters deserve to know basic information about a candidate. Questions like how long have you lived here, seem reasonable”
