SYRACUSE, NEW YORK– John Katko and Dana Balter held their first debate at the offices of the Post Standard/syracuse.com on Wednesday. During an exchange on immigration policy, and the caravan of migrants approaching the United States Border, Dana Balter denied that she supports the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Further, she evaded the question of whether she attended a rally, held by Balter-founded CNY Solidarity, that was focused on calling for the abolition of ICE. Dana Balter did indeed attend this rally, as the photo below clearly shows.
In light of this exchange, the Katko for Congress campaign today released the following statement:
“Dana Balter knows her views are too extreme for Central New York, so she has once again tried to cover up her position on a big issue. She attended a rally organized by a hard-left group that she helped found that called for the abolishment of ICE, and now wants the people of Central New York to believe otherwise.
“Dana Balter can’t have it both ways. She can’t join her extreme-left friends In protesting the existence of ICE one day and claim that she doesn’t support abolishing ICE on another.
“This is not the first time that Dana Balter has attempted an ideological cover up on the people of Central New York, and as her campaign desperately tries to hide her extreme-left views in the final days of the campaign, it almost certainly won’t be the last.
“Robust border security, and strong immigration enforcement programs, including ICE, are vital to our national security. Dana Balter showed her true colors when she protested the existence of ICE. The voters of CNY aren’t going to be fooled by her attempts to cover it up now.”
