Katko: Balter Silent as Leaders in Her Party Call to Defund Police Departments

SYRACUSE, NEW YORK — Congressman John Katko (NY-24) today released the following statement:

“The ongoing unrest in our country requires leadership, and willingness to work across party lines to accomplish meaningful reforms. The peaceful protests have forced an important conversation.  I called on the President to unify our nation, because I was disappointed with his response. I also know that there are real things we can do today that enjoy bipartisan support. “What I fear, is that the lack of response from government will lead to bad policy. There are few rational Americans who want to disband police agencies.  My opponent Dana Balter has been silent as leaders in her party call to defund police departments.  We live in a society where we can reform policing and address systematic racism, but it is not feasible to risk the safety of our community by eliminating police departments.  While national Democrats are urging the elimination of police departments, Dana Balter has remained silent.  Central New Yorkers deserve to know where she stands.”
