SYRACUSE, NY – Today law enforcement unions from across New York’s 24th Congressional District endorsed Congressman John Katko in his campaign for re-election.
Endorsements were announced from the Syracuse Police Benevolent Association, Upstate Police Benevolent Association, Auburn Police Local 195, Police Benevolent Association of the New York State Troopers, Onondaga County Deputy Sheriff’s Police Association, National Association of Police Organizations, Police Conference of New York, and City of Oswego Police Union.
“For over 20 years, I served as an organized crime prosecutor, focusing on narcotics and gang prosecutions in Central New York,” said Congressman Katko. “I worked alongside men and women in law enforcement. They are some of the most courageous and selfless people I know, and put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities.
Katko continued, “Now, more than ever, we must stand against radical calls to ‘defund the police’ and instead, expand resources and protections for the law enforcement community. While my opponent champions bail reform, I stand firmly in opposition to this dangerous policy, which has been criticized even by local Democrats as going too far for its requirement to release violent criminals into the community. I’m grateful to have the support of our law enforcement community and will continue standing up in Congress for those who serve and protect Central New York.”
“The Syracuse PBA is pleased to endorse Congressman John Katko. As a former federal prosecutor, John Katko worked alongside many of our officers and continues to stand up for us in Congress,” said Jeff Piedmonte, President, Syracuse PBA. “He has opposed dangerous calls to ‘Defund the Police’ and has prevented NYS disastrous bail reform law from reaching the federal level. Our membership is proud to once again stand with Congressman John Katko, and we thank him for his unwavering commitment to community safety.”
“I’m pleased to announce that our membership has unanimously endorsed Congressman John Katko in his candidacy for re-election to Congress,” said Dan Brogan, Vice President, Onondaga County Sheriff’s Captain’s Association. “His support of law enforcement spans so many areas; health and safety with regard to our response to COVID-19, homeland security, drug enforcement, and legislative initiatives to enhance penalties for persons who kill or attempt to kill a first responder, especially law enforcement officers. We look forward to working with him after his re-election and wish him the best in this race.”
“Our country is in great need of time proven candidates with solid law and order backgrounds who will support the police,” said Thomas Mungeer, President, Police Benevolent Association Of New York State Troopers. “We need leaders who will defend the police instead of defunding them. That is why our endorsement of John Katko was an easy decision for the Troopers PBA to make for the N.Y.-24 Congressional district.”
“The Lake City Police Club proudly endorses John Katko,” said Kevin Hadcock, President, City of Oswego Police Union. “We are thankful for his continued support for law enforcement and the City of Oswego. Katko not only has promoted great change at the national level but provides support directly to the City of Oswego recognizing local law enforcement officers, our port, parks and the local economy.”
